Enter Shikari

The last couple of weeks have been a bit crazy, so I've not really found time to rave about how great Enter Shikari were when I caught them at Rock City a couple of weeks ago. They've been on my list of "bands I don't really know, but would quite like to see" for a while now, but I really wasn't prepared for the amount of energy they threw into the performance.

There wasn't a second during the first three songs where any of the band stood still, and the crowd were really up for it. It made photography difficult, but it was great fun! I'll confess to not classing myself as a major fan before this gig, but I'll definitely be looking out for them again in the future.

Seriously, check them out.

Sum 41 – Mostly killer, a little filler

I've just got back from seeing Sum 41 at Rock City. It was the first time I've seen them, and it was good fun. Great to photograph – plenty of moving around on stage, nice crowd interaction. It's great when you have to work and actually employ your brain to get decent shots of a band, rather than sitting there pointing the camera at someone who's basically motionless for the whole set.

I certainly wasn't the only one enjoying it; the whole crowd were loving it – in much the same way as Reel Big Fish, this was overall a fun gig. Hoorah.

SB6 / Streetlight / Reel Big Fish

Sunday night was a great lineup at Rock City, with Sonic Boom Six and Streetlight Manifesto supporting Reel Big Fish. An unfortunate combination of big queues, late door opening and unaltered stage times meant that I (and many others) only caught the last song of the SB6 set, but it seemed to go down very well with the people who did catch it. I make no secret of the fact that I'm a massive SB6 fan, and I'd encourage anyone who hasn't heard of them to check out their website. Next up were Streetlight Manifesto, who I'd never seen before. Thankfully they lived up to expectations and were very enjoyable; they played a reasonably long set too, which is always good.

Obviously the main reason most people were at the gig was to see the headliners, Reel Big Fish. I've photographed them a couple of times before, but last night was a great reminder of just how much fun they really are. After a long and tiring weekend I unfortunately couldn't stay for the whole set, but it seems there no chance of RBF gigs getting boring any time soon.
