James and I foolishly decided to try and do every scramble in the book, and so rain seems to be a good incentive to plod up easier routes. We hit the cloud just at the only marginally exciting part of the ridge (see photo), and “topped out” approximately 30 seconds later on a very wet and windy shoulder of Crib y Ddysgl. To my mind, the ridge didn’t entail much scrambling, finished quite a way below the summit, and was just a bit boring. That said, I was talking with someone later in the day who rates it as one of his favourite routes, so maybe we just caught it on a bad day. What followed was a rapid retreat down the Miner’s Path from Bwlch Glas, negotiating a variety of people in trainers, jeans and a lack of waterproofs right from the zig-zags down to Pen y Pass car park. A variety of other factors conspired to mean we met up with Ramsoc for a very quick drink in Bangor hostel and then just legged it back to Chester! Not the most productive weekend we’ve ever had, but being out on the hill (even in gales and snow) beats sitting at home in front of the telly any day. :)

[5
58,67,74,263,264,275,290,308,376
post-22","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-outdoors","tag-climbing","tag-crb-y-ddysgl","tag-cwm-glas","tag-rain","tag-ramsoc","tag-ridge","tag-scrambling","tag-snowdon","tag-winter
["GET
