{"id":3389,"date":"2013-12-20T17:31:42","date_gmt":"2013-12-20T17:31:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.haydnwilliams.com\/blog\/?p=3389"},"modified":"2022-04-11T21:33:01","modified_gmt":"2022-04-11T20:33:01","slug":"tarmac-and-trails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.haydnwilliams.com\/blog\/tarmac-and-trails\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarmac and Trails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have recently been accused of being both a liar and cheat, and I must hold my hands up and confess to both counts.<\/p>\n<p>On a wet Saturday morning I made my way to <a title=\"Glan-y-Gors Karting\" href=\"http:\/\/gygkarting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glan-y-Gors Karting<\/a>.The aim was to get in some sneaky practice on my own, prior to a series of races against 35 other people (including Dad and Gareth) which I knew was coming up the following weekend. I had heard many stories of how brutal the twin-engined 65mph karts were, and how they had a tendency to spin at the slightest provocation. Heading out on the short circuit to start, I managed to keep with the 15 year old girl and her dad who were the only other people out there. I soon discovered that it was crazy amounts of fun on the sodden track, so by the time I graduated to the long track for my second session I was getting rather sideways as the rain lashed down.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3403\" style=\"width: 505px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/gygkarting.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3403\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3403\" alt=\"Glan y Gors circuit.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.haydnwilliams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131220e.jpg\" width=\"495\" height=\"652\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Glan y Gors circuit.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Anyway, with confidence levels raised I knew I could approach the following weekend with a bit more gusto. And there was no way I was going to confess to Dad and Gareth that I&#8217;d been up there for some practice! I initially held out in the face of their questioning, but crumbled on the day and admitted my deceit (blog post to follow).<\/p>\n<p>After that, I continued on to Pen y Gwryd, where I parked the car and ran down Nant Gwynant, past Llyn Dinas, over Cwm Bychan and then on to the caravan.
