The ascent started shallow enough but soon turned into the short-sharp-shock variety at the head of the first valley. A nip up to Pole Bank, the highest point, before some off-piste descent from the <a title=\"Wikipedia - Cross Dyke\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cross_dyke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cross dyke<\/a> below Round Hill into Ashes Hollow. Another tough ascent to the Boiling Well (which was at best seeping, and certainly not Boiling), before back to the car for some fantastic <a title=\"National Trust - Carding Mill Valley - Eating\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/carding-mill-valley-and-shropshire-hills\/eating-and-shopping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Trust sandwiches<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3648\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3648\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3648\" src=\"http:\/\/www.haydnwilliams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/20140531-02.jpg\" alt=\"Looking down to Ashes Hollow.  \u00a9\u00a0Haydn Williams 2014\" width=\"500\" height=\"600\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3648\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Looking down to Ashes Hollow. \u00a9\u00a0Haydn Williams 2014<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After that we de-camped to the hotel for the night, and had a nice sunny wander around Shrewsbury on Sunday morning. We then returned to my parents to pick up the non-plussed dog, safe in the knowledge that we&#8217;re now free to book a houndless holiday at some point in the near future.
