Yesterday I went North of The Wall<\/a>. (Then South of it. Then North again. Then South.)<\/p>\n

Travelling from Carlisle to Gateshead with work gave me an opportunity to stop and have a quick run along part of Hadrian’s Wall. The Hadrian’s Wall Path<\/a> is 84 miles long and weaves either side of the wall or its remains; with 90 minutes to play with I just did a short section either side of Steel Rigg.<\/p>\n

Although it’s not long since I was last in Northumberland<\/a>, it is a long time since my only previous visit<\/a> to Hadrian’s Wall. That was undertaken in the pouring rain, so it was nice to see it in a few minutes of sunshine.<\/p>\n

I’m always amazed at how things nearly two thousand years old are still standing, although sizeable portions of the wall have apparently been removed in years past to facilitate the building of roads (which seems criminal!), and it’s then been rebuilt back up again later on.<\/p>\n

The rain did roll in as I reached my most-easterly point, and despite trying to outrun it back to the car I got a good soaking.
