This is the brief story of a day out in Eryri. I parked at Ogwen, put the car on to charge, then set off up towards Bochlwyd…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just about got away without using my headtorch, and made it to Bwlch Tryfan as it started getting properly light…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From there I picked up the Paddy route over Tryfan, donning my running crampons for the little catwalk at the summit, then dropped off the other side…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything looked very rime-covered from below, and snowy from above – and said powdery snow made everything hard work because you had no idea what configuration of rocks your feet were going to sink down onto…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A delicate descent to the first notch on the north ridge followed, and then I turned left into the west gully…<\/p>\n\n\n

Although moving slower than anticipated because of the snow conditions, I reckoned I still had time to check out Pen yr Ole Wen on the other side of the valley…<\/p>\n\n\n

Turned out that Pen yr Ole Wen was also snowy….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With time running out, I descended the south-west ridge which was just as steep and awkward as I remembered, and I regretted my choice bitterly…<\/p>\n\n\n
