Moor and Sea

When you learn that ‘seren’ means ‘star’ in Welsh, this post title makes more sense.
I volunteered on the Spine Safety Team in 2017, being stationed at Hebden Bridge and Hawes over the few days I helped out. I learned a few things, including that I didn’t really want to do the race because it looked miserable.
We’ve just returned from Iceland, where the plan was to do some running and see a volcano, but geology and meteorology had other ideas.
I am one of a fairly exclusive bunch of runners to have completed the Corris Round. But that’s more due to the fact that it was only created in August 2020 than because of any running prowess on my part.
I first found out about the Kinder Dozen from Tim about five years ago, and I knew that the general advice was: (1) it’s a long day out; (2) don’t do it in summer because the bracken’s a nightmare. Point (2) will become quite pertinant.
After a couple of abortive pandemic-struck attempts at a Paddy Buckley round, I decided to stop focussing on a load of hills I’ve already run across hundreds of times, and strike out for somewhere new instead.
Having not seen a proper hill for some time, I hatched a plan to escape to the Peak District during the Single Christmas Day of Fun. Cue a departure from home at 02:30…
It’s a long while since I’ve been to Scotland, and even longer since the last winter trip.
