I decided it was time to test myself at a more traditional mountain marathon and do one solo. There were mixed results.
24 hours to reach as many controls as possible; I think that counts as my first ultra?
The route of Great Hucklow Fell Race looks relatively benign on the map, but it’s been disproportionately difficult both previous years I’ve done it.
Stuart and I came up with the idea of a jaunt around Kinder last weekend. I’d Google’d “scrambles in the Peak District” and found Nether Red Brook for some added interest.
There aren’t many races I’ve ever taken really seriously, but this one I did. I got in a decent amount of training beforehand, and even managed to reduce my cake intake by around 4%.
Fairfield Horseshoe, New Lanark, Helvellyn, Glyder Fawr.
Over a few days, not non-stop.

I had a gentle run over Shining Tor to the Cat and Fiddle this evening. A lovely part of the world, which I’ve never been to before.
I did a recce of the Ras y Moelwyn route five years ago; it took me almost 3½ hours and I walked quite a lot of it. Thankfully, Saturday’s performance was a bit better.
